Inspired by the Swahili word for ‘suspended in mid-air’ Angama Mara is located high above the floor of Africa’s Great Rift Valley. This remarkable owner-run safari lodge overlooking Maasai Mara, considered by many as one of the best safari lodges in Kenya.
Here guests will find a lodge where everything is as it ought to be: two intimate camps of just fifteen tented suites each, a private airfield and access to the Mara below, tailor-made safari days and a famously warm Kenyan welcome.
The tents are all identical, each with wonderful views of the Mara below. Each camp has its own Guest Area and team of hospitality staff. Between the two camps, and within easy walking distance of all the tents, is the Pavilion. Here, guests may enjoy the use of the Swimming Pool, the Fitness Room, the Safari Shop, the Maasai Beading Studio and the Photographic Studio.
The lodge is perfectly complemented by Angama Safari Camp, an exclusive-use mobile tented camp sited deep in the Mara Triangle, and amidst the mega herds during the Great Migration.

Perfectly cooked and perfectly presented using the best and freshest ingredients. Celebrating Kenya’s finest produce – beef, vegetables, fruits, coffee and tea – ingredients list as long as your grocery list tossed together with spices from the Swahili coast: cardamom, chilies, cilantro, ginger, cinnamon and cloves. Nearly a third of the menu is vegetarian for those who can’t get enough of the abundant fruits and vegetables Kenya has to offer.
Enjoy an Angama picnic served under a lone tree in the middle of the short grass plains of the Maasai Mara with only giraffe, elephant and buffalo as dining companions.

Angama Mara’s elegant tented suites have been designed to make the most of the extraordinary views of the Maasai Mara from every angle – from the bed, the bath, the sitting area, the shower and even the w/c. With the front of the tents featuring floor-to-ceiling glass, the roof and other three sides are canvas – classic safari olive on the outside and cream on the inside for romance. Spanning over 100 sqm, the tented suites all include spacious decks for in-room dining, massage treatments and red rocking chair safaris.
Each camp has two sets of interconnected family suites which are identical to tented suites, except with the addition of a fully enclosed walkway linking them together. This means you can still enjoy your space and privacy, with the peace of mind of being able to safely and easily move between the two tented suites. Children under the age of 12 can share a tented suite with their parents, with a fold-out bed converting it into a triple.
A light-footprint sole-use tented camp accommodating up to eight guests in four lovely ensuite tents sited deep in the Maasai Mara. This unique camp captures the romance and adventure of the glorious Golden Age of safaris, yet with a lightness of spirit that will both surprise and delight guests. Here, you can enjoy the comforts of 21st century camping, but with the thrill of having nothing but canvas between you, the Mara and year-round abundant wildlife right on your doorstep.

Angama's team draws inspiration from the finest ingredients Kenya has to offer: beautiful vegetables from the highlands, tropical fruits a-plenty from the coast, cheese from a renowned supplier just outside Nairobi, prawns from Malindi, freshwater fish from Lake Victoria and beef from the north. Kenyan cuisine is deeply influenced by Arab-inspired Swahili dishes from the coast and Indian food from the significant community that has called Kenya home for many generations.

Perched on the edge the Great Rift Valley, Angama Mara overlooks the spectacular Mara Triangle. Home to all of Kenya’s great mammals year-round and more than 450 bird species, it is a life-changing experience to go on safari in one of Africa’s most iconic reserves. That’s not to mention the annual spectacle of two million wildebeest, zebra and Thomson’s gazelle braving the dramatic crossings of the Mara River as they make their way into the Mara Triangle.

Game drives at Angama Mara are planned according to what the guests would like to do as there is no set programme. Descending down Angama Mara’s private road, 10-minutes later guests enter the Reserve. Even though there is game a-plenty around the lodge, the heart of the action takes place in one of Africa’s most iconic year-round Big Five destinations – the Mara Triangle.
Watch the hot air balloon as it is inflated, with a steaming cup of Kenyan coffee in hand. Just before dawn lift off into the skies, witnessing the sunrise and a multitude of animals below while floating over the Mara. Come back down to earth for a champagne breakfast in the middle of the savannah’s endless plains.
Guests have access to over a huge tract of wilderness along the Siria Escarpment. Escorted by a Maasai naturalist guide, walks can be as long or short as guests prefer. Discover the smaller details – fascinating plants, birds, insects and animals and the role they play in traditional Maasai beliefs and customs.
Visit Angama Mara’s Photographic Studio for a private tutorial with Adam, Angama's on-site wildlife photographer who will help you come to grips with your camera. Hire photographic equipment or learn more about the editing process on large-screen Apple desktops. Explore the Mara on a private photographic safari with one of resident specialist guides. Those who prefer to put down their cameras, the in-house photographer can capture these special moments in a professional photoshoot.
Angama Mara welcomes children aged six and over with arms open wide. We believe that connecting young guests to the world’s beautiful places and people is life-changing, not only for them, but for the adults experiencing the wilderness and all its wonders through the eyes of their children. Angama's approach is to keep young guests busy, tailor-making their stay according to each child’s preferences and age. Complimentary child-minding is included between 6pm and 10pm and Angama Mara has a total of four interconnected tents reserved for families travelling with children aged 12 and under.
For those wanting to take things a little easier, a masseuse offers full-body massages on the tent’s deck; or indulge in a rocking chair safari – each tent has two comfy bright red rocking chairs, from which you can enjoy the parade of wildlife in the Mara spread out below. In the guest areas, there is a lovely stand-alone library offering a carefully curated selection of Africana literature and film. Both the tented suites and the library, with its fireplace, leather sofa and refectory table are covered by a high-speed WiFi network.
