The hub of social activity is the main sandy-floored Ombak restaurant and bar lounge. Ombak, an exquisitely crafted open-air restaurant, serves a la carte breakfast and dinner daily with a relaxed convivial atmosphere. During the week Nihi create special dining experiences including spectacular BBQs.
Just bare footsteps from the sea, the Nio Beach Club offers open-aired pavilions and the Kapten’s Goa serving the highest quality of fresh ingredients for lunch: whether it is a fish just caught from sea, delicious vegetables and legumes from the resort's three thriving organic gardens, items from the grill, daily rotisserie or freshly made pizzas from wood fired clay oven, the Chef and his brigade will satiate your appetite with sumptuously healthy dishes. Lunch or snacks are served by the pool, and for special occasions, Nihi Sumba creates magical settings for romantic dinners.
The latest addition to Nihi's dining experiences is Kaboku, beachfront sushi bar. Watch the resort's sushi chefs prepare an assortment of catch-of-the-day, against a backdrop of brilliant sunsets and a roaring beach fire. Limited to six people per seating, the restaurant is open five nights a week from 6pm until 10pm, with advance reservations. The seven-course menu of local ingredients also includes avocado tofu, shrimp dumplings, Teriyaki dishes, miso soup, desserts, and more.
Open-air Ombak Bar serves freshly prepared smoothies, fruit-infused daiquiris, rum-addled caipirinhas and an excellent mojito made with home-grown mint. Open in the early evenings, the Boat House bar is an upmarket surfer’s hangout, complete with a bonfire on some nights; both offer fresh-off-the-boat sashimi to nibble on with a sundowner.
With a passion for bringing the best elements of nature for healing & relaxing journeys, Nihi offers a curated collection of indulgent experiences designed to deliver results and nurture you inside and out. Whether that includes yoga at dawn with breathtaking views or sunset massages overlooking miles of Nihi Beach on the Indian ocean coastline, we are here to create bespoke experiences that cater to your passions and interests.

Your immersion into Sumba life starts with the one and half hour journey from Tambolaka airport, leaving the bustling streets of Bali behind for a more Africa-meets-Asia experience. The journey starts at sea level and climbs to the rijewa mountain ranges at 500 metres. The spectacular scenery from peak to sky is framed by teak and mahogany plantations and thick Sumba deciduous forests. The road stretches down to Waikabubak passing through traditional settlements, the Sewah waterfalls and offers a canvas of rich green verdure; structured rice fields to river valleys and thick dense forests eventually leading to a glimpse of the Indian Ocean. The traditional market town of Waikabubak is situated 400 metres above sea level on a plateau and guests can often see water buffalo driven through the town on an evening drive. For the final part of the journey, you have magnificent views of the vast Wanokaka River Delta populated by local tribesmen grassing the rice fields, traditional swords in hand and wearing Ikat head scarves, winding through local villages to arrive at the magical setting of NIHI.
1h30m drive to Nihi Sumba.
A private helicopter may be chartered directly from Bali to Sumba Island, or from Sumba Tambolaka airport to Nihi resort.
Nihi Sumba Island is host to one of the world’s most coveted private waves. Known as “God’s Left,” or often “Occy’s Left”, the wave is popular for its character. Even for the most experienced surfer it presents a challenge because it is so sensitive to different conditions: tides, size, strength, and direction. Novice and first-time surfers can still get their feet wet with lessons on Nihiwatu beach, depending on the swell. Calmer waters can often be found at nearby Coconut Cove, where surfers can spend half a day with breakfast or lunch and do some light surfing, then be driven back to the resort.
Nihi’s state of the art equestrian facility, Sandalwood Stables, offers the perfect vacation for horse lovers. The resident horse whisperer, Carolyn Sharpe, has handpicked an exceptional team of local sport horses ready to carry guests off into the sunset and beyond. Depending on the time of year, guests might be lucky enough to see one of the foals in training!
Deep sea fishing off of the coast of Nihi produces some impressive catches. Nihi's offshore eco-systems provide an active deep sea fishing excursion for big game enthusiasts. The expert boatmen and local fishermen will locate the most active spots, and assist with prep and line as needed. Set out early in the morning and your catch will be ready for lunch!
The Nihi Sumba Turtle Hatchery initiative was started in 2004 in response to seeing thousands of turtle eggs being sold in the local markets. Nihi receives eggs all year round from local communities around the resort, offering the locals a reward for each egg. The eggs are buried under the sand in a hatchery and after seven to twelve weeks hundreds of baby hatchlings are ready to be released into the ocean. It is a beautiful experience watching them make their first steps towards their new adventures at sea.
Nihi aims to delight your child by creating memories that last well beyond your stay at the resort, with a focus on engaging and immersive experiences that foster a respect for the environment, build upon the adventures of travel, and develop a curiosity for discovery. Activities include kids yoga, turtle release, a family movie night on the beach, mud baths, face painting, pony rides, a jungle walk, Chris & Charly’s Chocolate factory, complete with chocolatiering and a tasting, active beach games, scavenger hunt and many more
In addition to surfing, Nihi Sumba also offer another adrenaline fix on the resort's world class waves! From beginner to advanced levels, depending on the wind condition and direction you can launch from the resort-front beach and kitesurf along Nihi's 2.5km coastline. Beginners will learn with training kites, and there are beautiful, calm, deserted beaches a short drive away where the conditions are ideal. Guests who wish to learn the sport Nihi also offers lessons.
