One of the planet’s most breathtaking cities, Cape Town, by population, is the second largest settlement in South Africa. Nature surrounds this multicultural city, which nuzzles between a rugged range of mountains and the sea. For a spectacular overview, hike to the peak of flat-topped Table Mountain, or glide up on the cableway.
The hour-long hike up Lion’s Head also provides panoramic city vistas. On Table Mountain’s eastern slopes, the magnificent Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens lie within a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Strolling along the waterfront boardwalk, visitors might see whales spouting. Penguins waddle along the golden beaches in False Bay, while south of the city, Cape Point is home to abundant wildlife and diverse botanical waterfront boardwalk wonders.
One of Cape Town’s top attractions is the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront. Reminiscent of Fisherman’s Wharf in San Francisco, visitors come here to shop, dine, and enjoy the many entertainment venues, including the Two Oceans Aquarium. Camps Bay, rimmed by beautiful boulder-flanked beaches, offers chic shops and cafes. At sunset, nature lovers stake a spot along spectacular Chapman’s Peak Drive in a dusk ritual known as “sundowners” to watch the sun sink slowly into the sea.
Situated on the continent where humankind began, in one of the world’s most biodiverse areas, amidst the light and nurturing energy exuding from ancient Table Mountain, Sanctuary’s location is both grounding and expansive, stripping away the complexities of modern life, and connecting you with the natural and indigenous world. Future Found Sanctuary is in an incredible location, central to exploring the region's wonders. Within 10 minutes arrive at the world renowned Groot Constantia, South Africa's oldest wine farm, and within 15 minutes the world renowned Kirstenbosch botanical gardens.
Teeming with peach trees and pines, fynbos and ferns, Future Found Sanctuary is the embodiment of a natural retreat and an ideal home base to explore the region’s wonders. Guests can start the day on a guided mountain hike to a waterfall, and spend the afternoon exploring many of the region’s nearby wonders, including world-renowned Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens.
The property chefs use the seasonal bounty that grows organically in the gardens. The tea sommelier has crafted teas that support guests in rising, realigning, reflecting and resting. The amenities are designed with Future Found’s Nature’s Rhythm’s functional fragrances made from plants that grow on the property and the dedicated wellbeing guru, Romy Paull, engages an entire team of experts in ancient and modern wisdom. Romy designs bespoke experiences for guests that encourage a 5-sense, 5-element and 5-rhythm experience of nature.

The surrounding mountains almost feel like they are enveloping you in this luxurious room, where a wallpaper of Sansevieria leaves echoes this natural aesthetic. Designer touches can be seen in all the specially curated furnishings.
Just a short hop from Cape Town, venturing into the “uplands”, you'll find yourself in the heart of the wine-making region, the oldest wine industry outside of Europe. Here you can enjoy the slower pace of life as you sample the grapes at quaint farmsteads and vineyards against the spectacular mountainous backdrop – the sunsets here are spectacular! These areas are particularly well-known for the high-quality tastings of South Africa’s renowned Pinotage and Chenin Blanc, but you should also look out for new producers who have expertly blended Bordeaux with great results.
Make the most of your time in the Winelands by visiting some of the many vineyards and wineries in the area. You could cycle between several different estates or take the Franschhoek Wine Tram, which follows a circular route through the town and the surrounding countryside, stopping at a number of different wineries where you can sample some of the region's produce. An expression of love, the Bokkie Garden is very close to owner Analjit Singh’s heart. The Afrikaans word bokkie means small buck but is also a term of endearment used by South Africans, comparable to ‘beloved’ or ‘sweetheart’. Pivotal to the Franchesca Watson designed garden with its herd of small buck is ‘Reflective Resonance’ by acclaimed sculptor Angus Taylor. It is a powerful piece in bronze and Belfast granite that is set to become a Franschhoek landmark.
