Cape Town

Cape Town, South Africa
Cape Town

One of the planet’s most breathtaking cities, Cape Town, by population, is the second largest settlement in South Africa. Nature surrounds this multicultural city, which nuzzles between a rugged range of mountains and the sea. For a spectacular overview, hike to the peak of flat-topped Table Mountain, or glide up on the cableway.

The hour-long hike up Lion’s Head also provides panoramic city vistas. On Table Mountain’s eastern slopes, the magnificent Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens lie within a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Strolling along the waterfront boardwalk, visitors might see whales spouting. Penguins waddle along the golden beaches in False Bay, while south of the city, Cape Point is home to abundant wildlife and diverse botanical waterfront boardwalk wonders.

One of Cape Town’s top attractions is the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront. Reminiscent of Fisherman’s Wharf in San Francisco, visitors come here to shop, dine, and enjoy the many entertainment venues, including the Two Oceans Aquarium. Camps Bay, rimmed by beautiful boulder-flanked beaches, offers chic shops and cafes. At sunset, nature lovers stake a spot along spectacular Chapman’s Peak Drive in a dusk ritual known as “sundowners” to watch the sun sink slowly into the sea.

Sabi Sands Game Reserve

Sabi Sands Game Reserve, South Africa
Sabi Sands Game Reserve

The Sabi Sand Game Reserve is situated in the southwestern corner of the world-renowned Kruger National Park in South Africa and consists of 65 000 hectares (160 620 acres). It is the most prestigious game reserve in South Africa and is famous for incredible leopard and lion sightings. With one of the richest game populations in the country, the chances of seeing the Big Five are excellent. Even though there is a 50-kilometre unfenced boundary with the Kruger National Park, wildlife in the Sabi Sand Reserve is well-habituated resulting in extraordinary close encounters and prolific sightings, particularly of the elusive leopard.

Sabi Sand Game Reserve offers excellent wildlife viewing. This is especially true for flagship species including the big cats. All of the Big Five are usually ticked in a two to three-day visit. The off-road driving assures quality sightings of most species, particularly the habituated resident predators. Sabi Sand is part of the Greater Kruger ecosystem, which makes for a very authentic wildlife experience. Wildlife viewing in Sabi Sands is at its best during the Dry season (June to September). August and September are particularly nice, since it is warmer than in mid-winter and animals tend to gather at water sources, making them easier to spot.

Londolozi, Pioneer Camp

Sabi Sands Game Reserve, South Africa
Londolozi, Pioneer Camp

The lodge is situated on the Sand River in the very heart of the Sabi Sand Game Reserve. This reserve forms part of the Greater Limpopo Transfrontier Park, a growing area that currently covers six million acres and incorporates the famous Kruger National Park. Wild animals move freely across this vast space, offering spectacular game viewing and a true wilderness experience.

Breeding herds of elephant and buffalo roam throughout Londolozi, while white rhino and lion concentrations are among the highest recorded on the African continent. Yet it’s the leopards of Londolozi that make us world famous for wildlife, and lie at the heart of the Londolozi feeling. Over the course of more than four decades, a unique relationship has developed between our rangers and trackers and generations of wild leopards. Intimate leopard sightings are frequent here, an experience that our guests agree is a pinnacle life experience.

Londolozi believe in safari as a journey that immerses the senses and awakens the spirit. To have an encounter with wild animals in the African bush is to discover an essential truth about ourselves and our world. For all who live the Londolozi feeling, the deepest wish for them is to give you the chance to experience this for yourself.

Experiences & Activities

The best luxury safari in the Kruger National Park is found in the Sabi Sand Game Reserve at the exclusive Londolozi Game Reserve. With nearly 100 years of experience, Londolozi embodies the best of all the inclusive, high-end experience you could look for in one of the best, if not THE best African safari destination on the continent.

As the Original safari destination, Londolozi offers the best luxury Kruger safari in South Africa. Since its inception in 1926, Londolozi has always called people towards wilderness adventure. We believe in a meditative luxury safari experience as a journey that immerses the senses and awakens the spirit. To have an encounter with wild animals in the African wilderness is to discover an essential truth about ourselves and our world.

Accommodation

Pioneer Camp’s three interconnected luxury suites and generous bush homestead makes this the most secluded and flexible of the Londolozi Camps. The private suites have superb river views and are perfect for honeymoons and secluded getaways. The Camp can easily be converted into a bush homestead for private multi-generational family groups of between 6 and 12 people.

The inspiration for the refreshed look was to weave the Ralph Lauren style into the original safari homestead resulting in the classic layering of signature textures and iconic features which reflect an African heart. Londolozi re-uses, re-engineers and restores the original feeling of an African Safari Camp. Pioneer Camp carries all the elements of authentic bushveld living, clean lines, simple timeless and classic elegance with a touch of crystal. A sense of history pervades the camp through faithfully restored memorabilia, photographs, leather and a bespoke one-of-a-kind wallpaper that lines the Pioneer Camp bar and tells a story of the lives of safari pioneers from just under a century ago.

Benguerra Island, Mozambique
&Beyond Benguerra Island

A tropical paradise tucked into a lush indigenous forest and looking out onto a picturesque crescent of sandy beach, &Beyond Benguerra Island is the quintessential luxury island retreat. Set among swaying palm trees, ten casinhas and two cabanas offer a light and airy colour scheme that combines tropical chic with a distinct African feel and reminders of the area’s Portuguese heritage. Ideal for families or groups, the three-bedroom Casa Familia ensures privacy and exclusivity.

Set under local thatch, both casinhas and cabanas boasts elegant four-poster beds with white linen canopies and comfortable day beds. Large windows with dark wooden shutters gaze out towards the Indian Ocean, while private timber decks and cool plunge pools offer a secluded alternative to beach sands and ocean waters. Bathrooms feature generous tubs big enough for two, while al fresco showers are decorated with hand-painted tiles. Woven hammocks invite guests to an afternoon siesta, lulled by a chorus of songbirds that makes the forest canopy its home. A shaded gazebo provides the ideal venue for starlit dinners, while the stylish dining room and open lounge, both of which boast wide, sunny decks, are the setting for more social dining.

Set in its own secluded garden and mere metres from the beach, the Casa Familia boasts three bedrooms, each with its own ensuite bathroom, as well as private swimming pool set on the sheltered wooden veranda. The lodge’s colourful dhow-inspired bar, sheltered by swaying palm trees, is the perfect setting to relax or enjoy open air meals throughout the day. Set deep in cleverly created patches of shade, comfortable loungers beckon guests to relax around the pool while drinking in the ocean views.

Experiences & Activities

Snorkelling is ideal for those who do not wish to do a scuba diving accreditation but who want to confidently explore the shallower coral reefs, situated off Benguerra Island, with the help of a snorkel. A guided snorkelling course is also available at an additional cost, offered by andBeyond’s Benguerra Island specialist dive masters, and covers safety procedures, equipment, currents and suggested snorkelling spots.

The adventure can be tailored according to your requirements and varies from a 30 minute trip to the school or 2 hours around the Island. The journey will take you past the lakes and dunes on the northern side of the island, past the school, the church and through the village so you can interact with some of the local people and find out more about the community projects that are run on the island.

Accommodation

Casa Familia

Ideal for families or groups, the Casa Familia features a main guest room with a lounge area and two interleading rooms on each side.
