Located 250 km north of the Arctic Circle, in the wilderness of Finnish Lapland rests the luxuriously private boutiique hotel, jávri Lodge. Open to adults only, this exclusive lodge was where Urho Kekkonen, the longest-serving president in Finland, escaped with those closest to him, as well as royalty and world leaders, to feel the tangible presence of nature. Today the standards and service remains nothing short of presidential with a personalized service, cuisine that celebrates the best of local delicacies and all the outdoor activities one might expect to find in Lapland. The Finnish wilderness is on the doorstep just waiting to be explored; to glimpse the Northern Lights, to hibernate in winter’s cold and darkness and to awaken once more in the never-setting sun as summer replaces winter.
Situated on the upper floor with 3.2 metres high floor-to-ceiling windows, SkyView Suites offer magnificent view out onto the never-ending wilderness. There’s an inviting seating area next to the window, a perfect place for a leisurely morning coffee. The leather and blackened wood of the interior, combined with neutral and grey tones create a modern, almost minimalistic style. SkyView Suites have a king-size bed and a private bathroom.
With a nod to the lodge’s history, the Presidential Suites on the ground floor feature original log walls, king-size beds, and sophisticated Scandi furniture. Presidential Suites are larger than other double rooms at Jávri Lodge. There’s a seating area with a comfy sofa and eye-catching armchair with sheepskin, and a private bathroom. Natural materials such as oak, wool and reindeer hides adorn the rooms and represent Scandinavian design aesthetics.
The stylishly charming Cozy Doubles are on the ground floor of the lodge. The rooms feature original log walls, neutral colours and chic Scandi furnishings. There’s a fantastically comfortable king-size bed, eye-catching armchair with sheepskin and sophisticated side tables, and a private bathroom.
When your days are spent exploring Mother Nature’s bounty some 250km north of the Arctic Circle, it’s only fitting that meals be as hearty and sustaining as possible. And while Jávri Lodge’s culinary team will ensure that you’re satiated, it also promises an exceptional and creative menu. Changing daily, it reflects both seasonality and availability, and is determined by the organic ingredients delivered by local trusted and reliable gatherers, fishermen, reindeer herders and hunters.
Dinner is a five- to seven-course extravaganza, showcasing wild fish, matsutake, berries and other local organic delicacies, paired with exquisite wines from small European vineyards. Maybe a matsutake gnocchi and king crab tortellini one night; reindeer tartar, lamb filet and cloudberry sorbet another. Dining is always a creative and tasty surprise, depending on the season and availability, and otherwise only limited by the chef’s imagination.
Mealtimes in the restaurant are always local Nordic fare. The Jávri Lodge’s culinary team promises an exceptional menu inspired by their imagination and pure local ingredients from a roster of trusted and reliable gatherers and fishermen.
